Firepits UK | Smoking Plank

Smoking Fish at home is now a delightful reality! It’s hard not to feel a bit proud when effortlessly transforming a fire pit into a handy little fish smoker.

Say goodbye to store-bought smoked salmon as you experience the simple pleasure of DIY smoking.

The Smoking Plank holder, designed to fit seamlessly into our fire pit with fixing lugs (see below for compatibility), positions the wooden board perfectly over the flames.

A stainless steel clamp firmly secures the fish fillet, allowing it to cure gently in the smoke. Crafted from high-quality British steel, the holder features three adjustable positions, enabling the ideal angle for suspending fish over the fire. It includes a groove to channel juices away, preventing flare-ups that could spoil the salmon. If the board becomes too charred, it can be easily replaced.

To use, simply unscrew the stainless steel clamp from the board, place the fillet into the holder, reattach the clamp, and slot the board over the fire pit.

Our Recommendations:

• Dip your board into water before use to keep it moist.
• Place your fish a minimum distance of 20cm from the fire to avoid excessive heat.
• Position the tail at the top of the plank as this required the least amount of cooking. 
• Experiment with different types of wood to see which smoky flavour you prefer. We love Alder or Hickory. 
• Keep the fire gentle and steady for an even smoke.
